How to use Preferences

Use Custom Preferences to Keep Your Product Images Consistent

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Consistency is key in product photography. Whether you’re selling clothing, jewelry, or home goods, having a uniform look builds trust and strengthens your brand identity.

Studio Nula’s Preferences tab makes it simple to set custom image specifications so every product photo meets your exact requirements — without needing to repeat instructions for every shoot.

What Is the Preferences Tab?

The Preferences tab is where you set the default specifications for your product images.

You can:

  • Choose from ready-made presets designed for common use cases (e.g., online store listings, multiple use cases, transparent backgrounds).

  • Create your own custom specs — choosing the file format, background, size, and margins that best fit your brand.

  • Save these settings as a template for future shoots.

Why Use Preferences?

  1. Save Time – No need to send the same instructions for every project.

  2. Stay Consistent – All images will have the same format, background, size, and margins.

  3. Reduce Errors – Pre-set specifications reduce the risk of receiving images in the wrong format or size.

  4. Brand Alignment – Keep your visuals uniform across your website, social media, and print materials.

What Is Margin in Product Photography?

In product photography, margin is the empty space around your product inside the image frame.

It affects how the product is positioned and perceived:

  • No Margin – The product fills the frame entirely.

  • %10 Margin – There’s a small amount of space around the product, making it look balanced and uncluttered.

  • Custom Margin – You decide exactly how much space to leave, either in percentage or pixels.

Why it matters:

Margins keep your product from looking “cut off” and help create a clean, consistent look across multiple product images.

How to Use the Preferences Tab

  1. Go to Preferences

    • From the left-hand menu, click Preferences.

  2. Create a Custom Template

    • You can set:

      • File Format: JPG, PNG, TIFF, PSD

      • Background: White, Transparent, or Colored

      • Size: Specify width and height in pixels

      • Margins: No margin, percentage margin, or custom measurement

  3. Save Your Template

    • Give your template a name.

    • Click Save Template so it’s ready for future shoots.

  4. Set as Default

    • Enable Set as default image specs if you want these settings to apply automatically to all future projects.
